HOUNSLOW COUNCIL CONSULTATION

Hounslow Council are proposing a range of changes to Bath Road near Hounslow West Underground Station.

  • Provision of continuous 1.5m wide cycle lanes supported by the introduction of waiting and loading restrictions
  • Removal of staggered pedestrian crossing and provision of a direct straight across pedestrian crossing with pedestrian countdown facility (this provides the amount of time pedestrians have to cross the road before the red man is displayed again)
  • Changes to the existing bus lane to improve traffic flow through the Vicarage Farm Road junction

It’s great that Hounslow Council are planning to widen the cycle lanes. Vehicles being driven into the cycle lanes can still be a problem though, so additional protection could be provided with added armadillos, orcas or wands.

Vicarage Farm Road junction: why not ask for the cycle lane to go behind the car parking bays and then rejoin the carriageway before the junction.

Car parking bays will remain
Please ask for the cycle lane to be routed behind the car parking bays to avoid the need for drivers to drive over the cycle lane. The parking bays could be moved further from the junction so that there is space for cyclists to rejoin the carriageway before the junction.
