BOLLO LANE REDEVELOPMENT

Hounslow Cycling is concerned about the poor provision for cycling in the proposed redevelopment of Bollo Lane.

Hounslow Cycling (“We”) are the borough group of the London Cycling Campaign. We do not normally comment on matters “over the border” in Ealing but northern links from Chiswick High Road and Chiswick Business Park are obviously relevant to our members.

Chiswick and Acton are largely severed by the District/Piccadilly and Overground Lines. (See this OpenStreetMap.). Bollo Lane is currently the least bad bike route for cyclists who live or work in Chiswick to get to/from Acton High Street, the Red Lion and Pineapple area or the Uxbridge Road. It is not currently a pleasant route and CrashMap records three serious and four slight injuries to cyclists in recent years along the relevant section. We believe that there would be a significant increase in take-up of cycling along Bollo Lane if a safer bike route could be provided. This would help to achieve the objectives set out in the Mayor’s Transport Strategy.

Hounslow Cycling has seen an outline bike lane design that has been shared with Ealing and Hounslow officers. We ask TfL to ensure that the proposed redevelopment is future-proofed to accommodate this design or something similar.
