CYCLEWAY 9 WEST – HOUNSLOW CYCLING SUMMARY RESPONSE

https://haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/cycleway-9-west

  • Hounslow Cycling welcomes the proposed improvements to walking and cycling along the A315 from Syon Park to Hounslow Town Centre.
  • We believe the plans are well worth supporting by everyone who cycles along the route for the following reasons:

Improvements in safety. We have seen traffic casualties halve for all road users since Cycleway 9 was fully implemented on Chiswick High Rd. In contrast the A315 between Syon Park and Hounslow Town Centre has shown no improvement in casualties for at least 15 years. People travelling through Brentford, Isleworth and Hounslow deserve the same safety as people travelling through Chiswick.

We believe the plans are high quality and we don’t have any significant concerns about the proposed design.

The plans have cycle lanes along both sides of the road from Syon Park to east of Isleworth Fire Station then change to a two-way cycle lane along the south side of the road to Hounslow Town Centre. In an ideal world, there would be cycle lanes on both sides of the road for the entire route, but we believe there may be safety challenges with a cycle lane going directly in front of the Fire Station and Bus Station, and a two-way cycle lane on the opposite side is a pragmatic solution.

If you want your voice to be heard, please respond by the deadline of Monday 19 October and support the consultation using one of the following methods:

It is important to use your own words, so don’t copy and paste from here!

  • Please support the plans and mention the ways in which safe cycling infrastructure in Hounslow will improve life for you, your friends and family.
  • Please also consider asking for the following improvements not directly related to cycling infrastructure:
    • The plans are vague about opportunities for more trees, more planting and more greening along the route so please ask the council to address this.
    • Please ask for all relocated and new bus stops to have seating and shelter.

And more requests!

  • If you know others who would benefit from the plans please ask them to respond too.
  • If you are connected with a school or a local employer, you could also ask them to support the plans. More children cycling to school and more people cycling to work will benefit everyone.

If you had any questions or points you’d like to raise about the plans, please get in touch. We will be submitting our detailed response before the consultation closes.
