Summary
The proposed scheme neither materially benefits nor harms cyclists.
Introduction
Transport for London is consulting on proposals to improve road safety at the Hogarth Roundabout and make it more accessible for pedestrians. It is, therefore, not a cycling scheme but the detailed maps show Advanced Stop Lines on the roundabout approaches and Cycle Parking at subway entrances.
Advanced Stop Lines
We see no merit in providing Advanced Stop Lines, which we expect to be used for motor bikes rather than pedal bikes as few people will want to cycle on the A4.
Cycle Parking
Provision of more bike racks near the George and Devonshire is welcome as that is frequently used by leisure cyclists enjoying Chiswick Mall or the Turnham Green – Chiswick Bridge route. More Asahi workers might cycle if some existing car parking space was released for secure bike storage. We see no demand for bike racks at other subway entrances.
A4/A316 Severance
The A4 and A316 are significant barriers to local cycling that we would like to see addressed. That could be done either by including signalised bike crossings at Hogarth Roundabout or by providing toucan crossings at Dukes Avenue/A4, Corney Road/A316 and Netheravon Road/A4. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss these options with LBH and TfL.
